Servant Leadership and Trusting God’s Power

Devotion: Mark 6:45–52

Today’s passage showed me several deep truths about Jesus and what it means to lead like Him.

1. The Servant Leadership of Jesus
After a long day of ministry, Jesus made sure His disciples left ahead of the crowd, sending them off in a boat. Then He personally stayed behind to dismiss the people—ensuring everyone left peacefully. This act reveals how a true leader protects and serves those they lead, even in small, quiet ways.

2. Time Alone with the Father
Jesus didn’t just serve others—He also made time to pray. He went up the mountain alone to be with His Father. His strength in ministry came from His time in prayer, not just His efforts.

3. Jesus Sees Us in the Storm
Even while praying, Jesus saw the disciples struggling in the wind. He didn’t leave them alone. He came to them—walking on water—and got into the boat. The wind calmed down once He was with them. Yet, the disciples were afraid at first, thinking He was a ghost.

Lessons I’m Learning:

  • A true leader protects and cares for those they lead.
  • A compassionate heart is essential, even when misunderstood.
  • We often forget God’s power, even when He’s right beside us.

My Prayer:
Lord, help me to be a servant-leader like You—compassionate, gentle, and watchful. When I’m misunderstood or rejected, remind me that my duty is to love like You did. People may not always recognize Your work in me, but let me reflect You anyway. Jesus, help me to remember Your goodness and never forget Your power, especially in life’s storms. Amen.

  1. Yes, the true leaders are often misunderstood, that's why the connection through prayer is so vital for standing.
May we be more encouraging than criticizing.
